Kia ora! I’m Daina, I’m a member of the Youth Employment Team at Taiohi Tūrama. My role focuses on mentoring and guiding rangatahi towards employment or further training, helping them build the skills and confidence to fill their kēte (basket), and supporting them in overcoming obstacles to find their own paths of greatness.
I was born in Australia but raised in West Auckland. Before joining Taiohi Tūrama, I worked in construction for 12 years before deciding to return to study and become a youth worker— a path I truly enjoy. I find fulfilment in supporting rangatahi as they navigate challenges and celebrate their achievements. Seeing their growth and positive changes motivates me every day.
In my spare time, you’ll find me outdoors – mountain biking, surfing, snowboarding, or hiking. I also enjoy playing guitar, writing music, and spending time with my whānau which also includes my two doggos.
My life mantras are: “Feel the fear and do it anyway” and “Not all those who wander are lost.” These remind me to embrace challenges, step into the unknown, and keep moving forward.
