Kia Ora, my name is Rachelle, also known as Nurse Rach,

I was born and raised in Tokoroa then moved to rural Rotorua in 2009. I have three children, one in medical school at Otago University, one in engineering and one still at school here in Rotorua.

A little about myself, I love mountains and water and find my happy place sitting near a lake/sea/river under the shadow of a mountain. Ko Tarawera te maunga e rū nei taku ngākau, Taraweras is the mountain that speaks to my heart, Ko Rerewhakaaitu moana e mahea nei aku māharahara, Rerewhakaaitu is the lake that alleviates my worries.

I have travelled to Nepal many times and immersed myself in Nepalese and Sherpa culture, hanging out with children and young people while staying in Himalayan villages. This what initially ignited my passion to become a nurse, to be able to help where the need is.

I started my nursing career in the Emergency Department at Rotorua Hospital, where I still work part-time along with casual shifts at Lakes Prime Care.  I love working with young people, listening to and partnering with them on their journey. I have worked in Youth Health at high schools in Rotorua for the last six years. I am currently studying advanced nursing at a postgraduate level and plan to go on to become a Nurse Practitioner.

I am excited to join the Taiohi Tūrama as a registered nurse meeting the health and well-being needs of our local rangatahi. I strongly believe in equality, diversity and inclusion and am honoured to become part of a youth-centric team that works by these principles.
