About Us
Rotorua Community Youth Centre Trust (Trading as Taiohi Tūrama) is a charitable organisation that was established in 1993.
We are a dedicated Youth One Stop Shop with the Mission To guide and support our young people on a strong pathway to improve their health and wellbeing, education, training and employment outcomes.
Our Vision is that Rotorua youth reach their full potential.
This means that Rotorua youth are happy, healthy and safe; accepted, valued, respected and connected; involved and empowered; and have a strong sense of belonging with access to productive productive work and learning opportunities, service, resources and supports that will help them reach their full potential.
Our key outcome areas include Health and well-being, Learning and Development and Employment.
We focus on the delivery of services, programmes and activities that build on the strengths and skills of young people, with youth voice and participation at the centre. We believe it is essential for young people to have opportunities and support with development of competencies and skills. Therefore, problem solving, negotiation, decision making and self-management skills; and strengthening resilience and self-esteem are core to our programme delivery. We engage young people in decisions that affect them, also enabling better outcomes.
Our work comes from a partnership approach which is youth-focused, strength-based and underpinned by the principles of the NZ Youth Development Strategy and the Rotorua Putake Nui Framework.
The way that we work supports young people to thrive at every stage of their development, especially through transition phases which can be especially difficult for young people.
Our approach to diversity is simple: it’s about embracing everyone. We are passionate about creating environment that where all taiohi, regardless of age, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, ethnicity, worldview and perspectives are made to feel welcome, nurtured and supported.
We mentor, coach and support young people to help them navigate their journey to be actively engaged in education, employment and/or training.
