According to the UN, International research highlights the economic and social impacts of the  COVID-19 pandemic around the world. Young people are particularly vulnerable to the disruptions that the pandemic has caused, and many are at risk of being left behind in education, opportunities and health and wellbeing during a crucial stage of their life development.

Young people in New Zealand have expressed feeling distressed or anxious about the future.

According to New Zealand media reports, welfare agencies and foodbanks, have reported record numbers of requests and youth mental health services have noted a drop in access to their services over the COVID-19 pandemic and services are now anticipating a boost in need post lockdown.

The mental wellbeing of young people is of high priority for the Rotorua Youth Centre and therefore launching this free help line was a no brainer.

Young people will have access to free and confidential support by calling toll free 0800ROTO2A between 10am and 3pm, Monday to Thursday.
