Studio Y – Youth Music Program
The Rotorua Youth Centre has just launched its brand new Music Performance Course – ‘Studio Y’
The Music and Performance Arts Course is a 16-week program consisting of regular performance rehearsals and a mix of theory and practical activities. The emphasis of the course is to enlighten aspiring youth to the demands and skills required to be successful in our music and entertainment industry.
Youth can form bands or perform solo and have the opportunity to learn about and perform different music styles throughout the course. These might include homegrown, blues, reggae, hiphop/r&b, rock or pop. Youth will learn to set-up and work with live sound equipment and, from time to time, have the opportunity to perform in public when these present themselves and learn important recording techniques and etiquette. They will gain an insight into the processes of the music industry, both business and practical, through the eyes of guest speakers and artists from time to time.
Starting on the 30th of May 2016, the 16 week course runs Mondays and Tuesdays from 4.30 to 6.30pm in the brand new Rotorua Youth Centre recording studio, and incorporates both practical and theoretical learning styles.
